How do you stay motivated at the gym? It can often be difficult maintaining that motivational momentum everyday at the gym. There are days that we are full of energy, every weight feels lighter than usual and we are hitting pb´s left, right and centre. There are also days where just stepping out of bed in the morning feels like the most impossible task. In fact, those days where you can barely keep your eyes open are actually the most important ones. Because this is where you are able to properly challenge yourself and where your self motivation must kick in to continue pursuing your goals, because as they say, consistency is KEY.
Don’t get me wrong, it is not easy to self motivate. There are a number of things that can influence your motivation, such as, whether or not you are providing your body with the right nutrition, if you stay hydrated through out the day, daily stresses such as work or anything that makes getting out of bed in the morning feel like a mission impossible. But of course there are ways to help maintain that momentum in the gym, it might be different for everyone but this is where you must try different things and find what works for you!
These tips below are more than some short term fixes as they can be made into long term habits to help you achieve your fitness goals. If you are looking to find your motivation, then what are you waiting for? Check out the tips below!
1. Set yourself fitness goals

Settings yourself goals gives you a reason to push yourself harder at the gym. You can set yourself one big goal, but break this big goal into smaller specific goals as this will feel less overwhelming in the long run. Do not forget to make sure these goals are realistic and in line with what you are looking to achieve!
2. Workout with a friend

If you’re feeling bored at the gym or you’re lacking motivation you should consider asking a friend or a family member to workout with you. Training with someone else is a great way to help push each other and can make a boring workout much more enjoyable! Try this out to help you stay motivated at the gym!
3. Remember your “why?”

Take a step back, get a journal, and write down every reason or the main reason you started working out in the first place. Was it due to poor mental health, finding a new hobby, lack of confidence? Identify your “why” and remind yourself of the real reason that got you into your fitness journey. Hold on to that “why” and have it as a constant reminder to keep you motivated.
4. It’s all about your mindset

“Believe you can and you’re already half way there” – Theodore Roosevelt
Your mindset is what is going to determine whether you achieve your desired goals or not. If you go into something thinking it’s not going to work out or you’re going to fail, then there is a big chance this will happen. Your mindset is so powerful and it’s something you MUST take complete advantage of. Instead of thinking “I can’t do this, it’s too difficult”, switch it up to, “You know what? I`ve got this!”. Remember, you can do anything you set your mind to. This is a great way to help you stay motivated at the gym.
5. Eat healthy and hydrate

According to a Harvard blog “what you eat directly affects the structure and function of your brain and, ultimately, your mood” – Eva Selhub.
There are many studies that suggest what you consume has a direct impact on your mental wellbeing. Have you stopped to think that your lacking of motivation could be because you’re not eating enough or you’re not staying hydrated enough throughout the day? Remember, food is fuel. And it does not mean you need to ditch your favourite foods! A healthy lifestyle is a balanced lifestyle. Everything in moderation is okay as long as you’re getting in the right nutrients through out the day!
6. Do things that will make you excited to workout

Whether it’s looking forward to a certain goal, buying a cute gym outfit, trying a new gym with a friend (my fave things to do). Come up with a list of things you can do related to the gym that you can look forward to or will make you feel excited. Personally, I LOVE ordering gym clothes online. Waiting for them to arrive, and then opening that package and showing up to the gym the next day in my new outfit always feels so amazing!
